| After three years of reading and
learning about the plight of the Galgo (Spanish Greyhound), I
decided that it was time to volunteer my time in hopes of helping
these amazing dogs. On November 11, 2004 I traveled to Scooby
in Medina del Campo, Spain, where I spent 7 days with 500 amazing
dogs and met the most wonderful people.
If I could sum up my experience at Scooby in one word, it would
be “Heaven.” Never in my life, have I ever experienced
such an amazing place. A place where 500 dogs can live in harmony
without cages or muzzles.
They arrive at Scooby as strays, neglected
or abused and fortunately are found or rescued by Scooby. They
are also brought in by hunters that just don’t want them
anymore. There is such a sense of safety at Scooby. When there
isn’t
a bark to be heard in the middle of the day and I know at that
moment 500 dogs are safe and content, warm and fed.
At times I look across
from paddock to paddock and I see dogs sleeping in the sun,
rolling on their backs and quietly playing with each other.
And the whole time, not a sound. This is heaven.
